Looking for a job as a school psychologist or intern in Kern County? The Kern Association of School Psychologists (KASP), located in Kern County (Bakersfield, pop 300,000), CA, is interested in attracting well-trained school psychologists and school psych interns to this area. We are especially interested in attracting school psychologists and interns from NASP-accredited programs, and/or "Nationally Certified" school psychologists (NCSP's). Unlike the very high cost of living in the coastal areas of California, living expenses in this part of CA are comparable to mid-sized urban communities in other states. Kern County has high salaries relative to the cost of living. Depending upon degree, experience, and district, beginning salaries range from the high 50's to the low 70's for annual contracts ranging from 195 to 210 days of service. Intern salaries are typically in the 30K range. Located two hours equidistant from the high Sierra Mountains, the central coast beaches, and central Los Angeles, the Bakersfield area has access to a wide range of recreational and cultural opportunities. The climate here is hot and dry in the summer (upper 90's, low 100's) with very low humidity. The winters are mild (upper 50's and 60's), allowing year-round tennis, golf, gardening and other outdoor activities, yet snow sports are easily accessible. Kern County has professional hockey, triple-A baseball, extensive soccer programs, scores of golf courses, some of the best white-water rafting in the country, and is less than 2 hrs from major universities (USC, UCLA, Fresno State). Cal State-Bakersfield offers a variety of graduate programs and cultural activities.
