APRIL, 2009 KOG CHRONICLES (2002-PRESENT) ISSUE

KOG CHRONICLES ISSUE... Catch up on past issues... Understand the evolution of the KOG... See how  the KOG has always been ahead of it's time... and more!  Welcome to the KOG Chronicles!
Welcome KOG Visitor,

In this issue, The KOG is chronicled from it's earliest days to the present.

Through good and bad times, I have enjoyed my stint as KOG Editor and Webmaster.  At it's worst, the KOG has consisted of me merely moaning, groaning, griping, and complaining... at it's best, it may have asked a few important questions related to our field, modern education, and the provision of great services for students.

It has become evident to me that the "KASP Revolution" and the "KOG Revolution" are incompatible.  It is time for me to take my revolution elsewhere and allow someone else to step forth to articulate the KASP Revolution.

I want to thank the KASP organization for allowing me to be the webmaster and KOG Editor.  My involvement in KASP has been professionally stimulating and interesting.  From my time in KASP I know one thing:  Kern school psychologists are heroes and help students on a daily basis.

Several past [lost] issues of the KOG were recently discovered through web archives.  To best enjoy the evolution (i.e., the rise and fall of the KOG), I recommend you start at the bottom of the page and work your way up to the top.

Notes: The most controversial KOG ever.  We (um, I) burned my DSM!  I only did it though as per a 2:1 voting margin by KASP members (see KASP Discussion Group).  Given the context of APA trying to kick us out, and the fact that people like you and I might go from being professional school psychologists to psychological aides over night, I consider Job Opening:  The Interview my best writing ever.

MARCH, 2007

March BONUS SPECTACULAR!
http://www.kernschoolpsych.org/marchspectacular.htm

• Responding to the national educational crisis...
• The Challenge
http://rwolforum.mywowbb.com/
Notes:  Kevin P. Dwyer, NCSP, Past NASP President and recipient of the NASP Lifetime Achievement Award, has forwarded the challenge... the KOG is responding to that challenge!  Your are invited to become part of the solution at the new RWOL Forum, a "living, working, ethical document shaping not only the practice of school psychology, but education -- even society -- itself!

This experiment did not work... apparently our field is not ready to consider giving up on labels and diagnosis whether they're valid or not.  A "national crisis" to one is "tin hat" to another.  If you go to this page, you will see my original 50 posts and about 4,000 spammers who have infected the forum.  I'll soon be taking the page down and write it off as still another failure (i.e., lost opportunity) -- so if you're going to visit, you should soon.  Then you can get back to diagnosing LD...

Notes:  "Are You A Teacher?" is widely criticized, but are you a teacher?  Apparently thousands of school psychologists throughout the nation are choosing to be, um, reading teachers?

Bad news:  KOG Editor suffers unfortunate computer crash that keeps him offline for the remainder of the 05/06 school year.  Good news:  he gets a brand new computer and returns in September, 2006!

Still, September of 2006 seemingly marks the official start of the long sad decline and eventual and predictable demise of the KOG.

The KOG is already forwarding alternatives to the same-ole, same-ole (traditional, RtI, neuropsych. medical model, etc.);  "Time to Drop Special Education" is one of the KOG Editor's classics and maybe, just maybe, twenty years ahead of it's time.

NOTES & DISCLAIMERS:
Any opinions expressed in the KOG are opinions only and are not necessarily approved or supported by the KASP organization or anyone else, including the KOG Editor.  On the other hand, any facts expressed or implied are indeed, facts.  Just as is true for everything else in this world, you get to decide what is opinion, what is fact, and what is research based, and if and how they may or may not all go together.  Please note that just because something is research based doesn't necessarily make it a fact;  and not all facts are research based.  Some opinions are facts and research based.  Some opinions are not facts, yet are still research based.  Just because something is research based doesn't necessarily make it a fact, or ethical.  Some facts are facts for some but not facts for others; the same concept holds true for opinions and research.  The same can be said for humor, satire, parody, and serious notes.  Some opinions are just opinions.  However, one thing is always certain... everything counts.
